why is black and white not a colour

Black is the absence of colour and white is the presence of all colours. All the colours in existence are in the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet - no black or white). When you describe something as black (trousers, for instance) what you're actually seeing is an incredibly dark blue/brown/grey colour.
