Lido di Ostia is effectively a seaside suburb of Rome. (It's served by a train on which a day ticket for the Metro is valid. You can be there in under half an hour from central Rome). See here for information:

thanks, but that link is confusing. Any idea where I can find a luxury hotel on a beach in a nice place not too far from Rome?
There are no big resorts close to Rome but, obviously, Romans still like to enjoy the sea. Those that avoid the bustle of Lido di Ostia might choose Fregene. There's a two-page review, here:
