I too now have poor credit. Mine went from an A to a D because I joined a debt management program and didn't know the credit card companies could put a black mark against your credit. (Read my Debt Management Question for more information.) My husband recently forced me to sign over the deeds to our two homes and he forced me to agree to removing my name from his checking/savings account. However, he refuses to remove my name from the mortgages because it will cost him money. I cannot raise my credit rating with this mortgage on it and I cannot get loans to pay off credit cards, etc., because of it. My only option is to force him (through legal lines) to take my name off the mortgage. This will just increase the stress to my already fragile marriage. I have pretty much had it with his control issues and want to leave, but I cannot even consider buying a house until my name is off all mortgages. It appears I will have to leave first, find a place to rent (essentially throwing my money away), and put in the divorce papers that he has to refinance to remove my name from all mortgages. This is rediculous.
