Places to stay mid way between Boston and Cape Cod

We are going to Cape Cod in August, and will be travelling back to Boston on Saturday of Labour W/e. Everybody has warned us of traffic and holiday chaos. Where would be good to stay mid way between Boston and Cape Cod on the Friday night. We've got two small children (4 and 3) and want some where cool but good fun and don't mind paying a bit to find the right place.
