leave the account open then with zero balance,
dont pay any more money in,
cant see the problem
Sounds baffling to me. You do not need an account with a bank to have a loan with them. Have you arranged to service the loan from your new account.. Perhaps they want to know where the funds are coming from.
First Direct do the same thing I had to keep my account open as i have a loan with them but i dont use it other than to put a standing order in each month for them to take out of it! I dont bank with them anymore though they are all the same
I had this problem too, with the Alliance and Leicester. Unfortunately, if your current account is linked for the payment of the loan you only have the option of paying off the loan, with possible charges that may involve, or just keeping enough each month in the account to pay the loan. You don't say whether this is one of those gruesome accounts that charge a monthly sum just for breathing. If it is, another loan may be the only option. Unfortunately, your mention of overdraft/charges makes me think you might have a bad credit rating so go careful. Are you aware that the Office of fair Trading investigating excessive bank charges and there is a court case ongoing. It may help you. Good luck
