How many of you know of products that have come out at the wrong time and have lost out in the run of things. I'm thinking of things like the Sega Dreamcast which was really good it just didn't sell very much and Minidiscs which are fast becoming obsolete to mp3. Anyone know any more?
It was a sad day when Betamax lost out to VHS. Betamax was a far superior technology, but hit the market at the wrong time, and with the wrong advertising behind it. Bummer.
In the immortal words of Billy Connelly - Bow;er hat with sleeves, coat hanger / cigarette lighter and the little device like a comb that you could use to cut your own hair!!!!
Although Betamax lost out on the domestic VCR market, it dominated and continues to dominate the Broadcast video world.
We've had Betacam, BetacamSP, Beta SX, Digital Betacam and now Beta IMX. All based on the same cassettes as Betamax.
And considering that a Digi-Beta player/recorder will set you back around 40,000 each. I don't reckon Sony are crying over losing out to VHS too much!
