i have 2 flights of stairs to go up , i have 2 sons 1 age 7 and just had another now 4 months old gone back to work full time
but cant manage stairs with new son buggy let alone shopping

council wont re house me, thing is i now have a problem with walking since giving birth ankles are killing me
any one any idears?

i rent property and recently i decided to give the dhs a go. its amost imposible to get a house around here if your a dhs person so i thought i would jump into the market!!

its now been 5 months and the council are still humming and arghing about paying the rent, they have even told my tennants that they may have to go into a B&B miles away if i evict them??

so my advice is...........be very careful as the council are idiots,they have no houses and they wont pay private landlords either!!!!!!

My friend owns a flat which had been empty for a while. The council wrote to her, offering to take over management of her flat, including refurbishment, in return for a very good rent and insurances paid.

So councils do rent from private landlords.

This doesn't help you though. Sadly you are not unique and there are many in less than satisfactory accommodation.

Try housing associations and keep nagging the council.

the council here are usless they now have a bidding system
which ive been placed in band 2 but as i bid every time with no luck i should point out. it seems unless you are band 1 you dont get anywhere
ive now been bidding for 3 yrs

im thinking of renting private and tell council have their flat back, rooms are not even big enough , i have baby in with me with no room as for my single room you coudnt swing a cat , can only get 1 single bed in thier

I don't mean to sound rude or a cow, really i don't. But if your housing was already unsuitable before, why did you then go ahead and have another child?

sorry, but if you can afford to rent privately why dont you??? instead of whinging about the council who have been good enough to put a roof over your head. Surely the point of council houses is for people who are in a desperate position and cant get accommodation any other way? If you can rent privately then do it! And let someone who'll appreciate your flat have it. As a last point, you must have realised you had 2 flights of stairs to up when you decided to get pregnant?

she is saying she will find a private house and get the council to pay rwent on it?? ..... i think!

the council are making it very difficult for me to offer them my house as dhs acceptable property. i have spoken to other landlords who have said they would never consider DHS as its a pain to get money off the council.

but also i know a guy who has 5 rental houses all with dhs and he has had no problems whatsoever?

I know how you feel,everyone should be adequately housed,why should you not,as for people saying rude comments,some of us cant afford to buy or private rent,just because people are with the council doesnt mean there scroungers some of us work hard and still struggle to get by,how do you get on this bidding system? why dont you try a transfer?? Write to your local mps and councillors asap and they should write to the council for you.GOOD LUCK

Chell, go to your doctors explain the situation and ask him to write a letter on your behalf. Get social services involved if you have to and ask for a home help for shopping and stuff. Maybe even surestart could give you abuddy mum that could help you.

Do you have a secure tenancy? If so apply for a transfer or exchange. Get down the council and make sure you are on the list for a house or ground floor flat. With a 7 year old in the house even if they are the same sex you are almost certainly entitled to a 3 bed house. Make sure your house is well looked after that can get you 30 points alone on your transfer list.

Oh and rugely I know exactly where you stand there. I was renting a lovely three bedroomed house, went on maternity leave and because I had been a good tenant they agreed to take dhs payments. I had that child went back to work and ended up getting a back payment for all 6 months rent 3 months after I went back to work as I ended up paying it out of my pocket. I then got pregnant again and dropped my hours because of sciatica, and needed some housing benefit and the council were utter gits about it and wouldn't pay out. I ended up having a miscarriage and my landlords evicted me due to nonpayment then the council said they wouldn't give me emergency housing because I had been evicted because of my own fault. I then pointed out to them that it was there fault I was homeless cause they wouldn't pull there finger out and even the landlord that evicted me came and fought my corner for me.

I think it would be a sensible move to never take on a tenant who is dhs, it seems you are being almost charitable by doing so but in the long run you are actually helping the propective tennant get a house.

i may seem rude, but honestly! If you have no space to swing a cat, your rooms are too small and you have leg problems while trying to get upstairs then WHY GET PREGNANT? And then expect the council to rehouse you. To me it just beggars belief. It just completely exasperates me how people can be so silly. Contraception is free, housing isn't
however, that dosent help chell. Have you applied to a housing association?

You can do a lot to help yourself - shop online and get your groceries delivered to save you struggling with shopping.

I remember when my sister had two children under 18 months and was living in a top floor flat - it was a struggle with no lifts.

The council wouldn't help her either - but this was in the 50s.

im middle 30 never claimed doll or social
i went back to work when my fiorst was 6 weeks old only taking 8 weeks in total materinity and with my 2nd only taking 9 weeks
i pay myself for child minder as cannot get help with cost
im not i pay full rent and council tax and i provide for my kids to my full ability
but i must say some of your comments well;;;;
perhaps i should have gone on social may the state pay for me and had several kids but NO i never

my eldest cannot even play out for fear of roads and drug needles is that a area you would want your kids in?

yes i have a secured tennancy been here 5 years already
no one wants to exchange to a small 2 bed flat 2nd floor
and what with the drugs and rubbish who would blame them
dont get me wrong it wasent bad when i moved in they just all desended on to estate about 3 years ago
