Changing Drs

I wish to change Drs to one closer to me, but can't get out of the office to ring the surgery at the minute.

Has anyone done this recently and what do I need to do? Is it just a case of going to the new surgery with my medical card and registering there?

That's how to start off, but unless you have moved house I believe they will require the old doctor's agreement. If he doesn't want to give it, they can't transfer you.

They will tell you how to proceed if this is the case - I think you have to put in a request to the Health Authority.

Firstly you need to check that the Doctor you are wanting to transfer to is accepting new patients. If they are, you just need to call in and register. You don't need the permission of your old Doctor, you can just move to a new pratice.

I changed mine a few months ago, it was really simple!

Thanks. i am quite unhappy with the service i've been getting at my previous dr surgery so I dont really want to have to ask that my current dr allows me to leave

Looks like you used to have to have the agreement of your old doctor but don't any more.
