I know that I can wire up my mixer straight to my PC in order to record a set, or just music in general, but I am not sure how to go about doing it. Does anyone know which leads are required to do this, and can you please recommend a decent cheap or free sound recorder? Also would I need anything else to do this?

Well phono to mini-stereo jack is the lead and search here for a free sound recorder: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com . I recommend you buy Soundforge.
