How can I transfer my Appleworks documents from an iMac using os9 to a word document on a laptop using Windows XP?

Try this:

Download OpenOffice.org (word processor; same website as the name of the program), open your document and save as a word document. Openoffice can open almost any type of document, it's made for every major OS, and because it's open source it's 100% free.
