problems playing avi files

i've got lots of films copied onto CDs which are mostly avi files as well as some other formats. I'm playing them in Sasami2k and DivX (both the latest versions) but i'm having a few problems. after about 10-15 mins of perfectly fine playing time (if im lucky!) the program stops and computer crases. SYPMTOMS: ctrl+alt+del sometimes says msgrv32 not responding busy light on CD-ROM is constantly on sometimes goes to blue screen telling my that i have certain faults with ridiculously long numbers! CDs seem to work OK on other computers! ANY IDEAS WHAT I CAN DO BEFORE I BRING IN THE BIG BOYS?

Possible solutions/causes: - Disable Power Management - See if you can update the drivers of your soundcard Tell us the full story in the blue screen. Cheers, PD
