cat uses litter tray only for wee!

We took a pregnant stray in who was pregnant and she has just given birth but uses the litter to wee in but poo's on the wooden floor, i have tried showing her the tray and pointing at the floor but she just does not understand. What can i do?

I have a female cat who is now 10 years old and she is exactly the same. She will only poo in the litter tray if she has brand new litter. Other than that she will go outside to do it or if she can't she will find a corner. Maybe its about not liking to get her feet wet as she would in litter that had been weed on!

Maybe you could try 2 litter trays and make sure one is clean all the time. Gelda

My 7 year old tom cat always has pood on floor next to litter tray . Tried everything but nothing will make him change.

my fathers cat has to have the litter tray emptied every time he uses it - and he prefers one of those with the lids on, obviously prefers his privacy!
