After a couple of very unsuccessful relationships our best friend gave speeddating a go, and met a super chap. He helped her sort out her life after her last sh-1-t of a husband tried as hard as he could to ruin it.
They are now happily living together, and he is a great father to her 6 y o daughter.
So it can work.

My Best Friend met his girlfriend speed-dating about 2 years ago, they have just got engaged and found out they were "with child" a month later. They are a lovely couple - so go for it, you never know who you might meet !

i haven't, but a mate of mine went out with a guy for about 6 months after speed dating, it just fizzled out.

i think given that you have to pay for these events, the people who go are likely genuine and looking for someone for real, not out to mess around, so go for it - what have you got to lose?

i would rather choose speed-dating as opposed to clubs/pubs etc. because i find the women in their are common and you cant get a decent conversation going!
