Is there anyone on AB who has taken or is taking HRT. If so, could you please tell me if you felt any real benefit from it. I.e, mainly helping to relieve really bad mood swings. And if so, how long before you felt it helped you. Many thanks

Thank you gina for replying so quickly. The mood swings are worst for me. Was only prescribed it yesterday. Can I ask also, did you put a lot of weight on by taking it?
i did when i first took it but have been on different ones to see which suits me best, i aksed the doc about the weight gain and he said if you take pills it will as it has to go through your liver but obviously the other sorts dont, i use gel at the moment and that seems to be the best so far, i did use the patches which were great for a while but then they started to make me itch, its just trial and error, suppose it depends on why you have them, some cos of age, some cos of surgery

Thanks again gina. I had vowed not to take HRT, but after seeing the dr yesterday, and feeling the way I have been feeling, I would of honesty taken anything. I am on Prempak-C, so dont know if you have been on it, also been given anti depressants to help with the real downer of mood swings. Its got to make me feel better than I do now. Its like PMT but 10 times worst. Often feel like I am going mad!
hi trinny hope it works well for you soon xx
Hi Trinny
No way could I get by without HRT
I have been on it a few years now.
Started with Prempac-c lower dose, then the highest dose. Did not work for me.
Also went on a herbal mixture from the Doctor and that was worse.
I have been on the patches Everorel conti and they are great. No mood swing and no flushes whatsoever.
trinny it will probably be trial and error until you find one that suits, as i said ive been on for over 25 years now so cant remember what ive had but like cruella says i wouldnt come off them! its my lifeline
Question Author
Thank gina and cruella. Am giving the hrt a go. Geez, its got to make me feel better than I did. Did either of you feel like you were going totally mad before taking it? On my 3rd day now, so not expecting quick results.

hiya sleepy, thanks for that xx
Hi Trinny , stick with it and give it a try and you can always go back to your gp if you feel it doesn't suit you .There are several types of hrt out there and , yes , it can be a case of trial and error. All the best. :-) xx
Hi ive been on hrt now for 17 years, started taking it at 25 years old after a hysterectomy, i cant say its changed my life, they say it makes you feel younger etc etc, but i was young anyway so i couldnt really feel any younger, so i really only take it for my bones, i cant say if it works for hot flushes or mood swings as ive never had them since ive always been on hrt, i would like to stop it now but the docs wont let me as im still only 42. Good luck though.
