Police Caution

I previously posted a question on here as I thought I had received a caution from the police, although now I am not sure after speaking with someone in the force. I was not actually arrested for the offence, nor was I taken to the station for questioning. I was simply issued with a stop & search slip, which I signed, I was told by the officer I was being cautioned. I had my ID taken from me and was then told I would be phoned a few weeks later and would have to then go to the local station to collect my ID and be questioned. This never happened and I had to phone the station myself in order to get my ID back. I had no finger prints, photo etc taken. Can someone please clarify what this was?

Almost certainly not an adult caution. What was the offence? Cannabis?
the technical term for this is a '**** Up' by the police.....Yet Again.

It wasn't Cannabis, it was a class A drug, but a very small quantity. I did answer a few questions at the time which the officer wrote down on a piece of paper which I then signed. But then was told to be on my way and that I'd be getting a phone call as per above. I was never read any rights or cuffed or anything. Is it possible that they just couldn't be arsed with the paper work so didn't follow procedure properly?

Also, I am 25 so there is no way they would mistake me for a kid. The guy I know in the force said that to be officially cautioned you have to be taken to the station and have fingerprints etc taken. I had a clean record prior to this so they wouldn't have that info already. I am very confused! Any ideas?
