Hi scrumpy - Try putting your head over some steaming hot water, cover your head over with a cloth. Sniff up the steam. Not sure whether this will work, but it's free and worth a try? They say ear/ nose & throat are all connected after all!
This happened to my husband in Cyprus a couple of years ago. He went to a local clinic and a doctor syringed his ear and out popped a lump of wax (ugh) but he was cured immediately.
Lidlicker is spot on, but the question of flying is that you should have no problem with your ears on flying back to the UK, but seeing a Dr. is ideal.
Just had a thought, in Majorca there is a liquid called agua oxigenada cinfa, which is basically oxygen peroxide. Unfortunately it is sold in 250 ml bottles. However you can pour some into a small spray container and give the ear canals a good spray. There will be some "guggling" and fizing, but it it is wax then the result will be satisfying.
If you do have pains in ear when you come home ask for some menthol crystals which they keep on board. Some how it helps . The other one (when flying back from bulgaria) was to suck on a piece of lemon. Think it was just to take my mind off of the pain but hey... it worked. You'll be fine and have a fab holiday !
thanks all - ended up seeing doctor in majorca, they syringed it and all this crap came out - it was like colonic irrigation for the ear! felt great afterwards. home now, trying to keep the tan lol
