refunds or exchanges in shops

can you please tell me whether i am entitlied to a refund or and exchange on an item bought in the sale recently. it is not faulty, just didn't suit when i tried it on at home (no changing room in shop). tried taking it back to the shop but they said i couldn't bring it back as it had been in the sale. can anyone please help me!

You are not legally entitled to an exchange or refund even if it wasn't in the sale.

A shop only has to offer a refund if the item is faulty or not fit for the purpose it was bought. Just because you don't like it or it doesn't suit you doesn't count.

It is a bit harsh though if they have no changing rooms, how are you supposed to know whether something fits or not?

Sell it on ebay and recoup some of your money.

Cheekychops is perfectly correct - shops do not have to refund or exchange goods just because you change your mind.

Apparently it is just a gesture of goodwill for shops to offer a refund, they don't technically have to offer a refund at all. As for sale items, a lot of shops including argos and Next do not offer refund on sale items. Argos only do if it was faulty. I agree that you might be better selling it on ebay, someone out there may be desperately looking for the item you have as they missed out on the sale. Worth a go.
