How can I see what someone has been doing on the internet after they have cleared the search bars and gone into intrernet options and deleted cookies, files and cleared history and cleared recycle bin?

Instead directory addresses are rewritten so that for all intents and purposes the files are gone. This is also true about formatting, the main directory is reset to show all clear. Only when an erased file has been overwritten is it gone for real. Using a program such as PC Inspector File Recovery enables you to recover lost or deleted files. Not sure if it will work on internet history though.

If only it were that simple. It's true that 'deleting' a file merely removed the file system's pointer to the start of the file. The file is still there and it's possible that a mere defrag will scramble things sufficiently. However Internet Explorer maintains a 'secret' log of all web activity. Google for index.dat then reformat your machine and install Firefox.
