Extra characters in file extension

I've downloaded a zipped up version of a program, when the program is unzipped it has added extra characters to the file extension, for example abc.htm now reads as abc.htm;1. There are quiet a few files in the directory with the extra (;1) characters. Is there any program available that can rename the current files and remove the extra characters(;1) from the file extension

If there are multiple files of the same file name and extension in some OS an extra numbered character is added to help organise the files. Either move the files to differant folders and rename them or place the number character within the name tag and not the extension.

They ar e not multiple copies of the same file name. The directory listing lokks something like

form.htm;1
front.htm;1
ground.htm;1

its the ;1 at the end of the extension that I'm trying to remove,and as there are hundreds of files in the directory I was wondering if there was an easy to do it

I don't know what program was used to zip the file, but I use Winrar to unzip. I use XP. The browser is Firefox, but that has nothing to do with it. I just listed some files from the directory which happened to have .htm extensions, but there are other file types such as .exe, .bmp, .dll and they all have ;1 at the end
