How effective is Cipralex at balancing out low mood, has anyone tried it and felt genuinely happier? How long did it take to work?

I took it and unfortunatly I didn't 'take' to it. It made me seriously sick (vomit) so after a few days I stopped.
I've been taking it for three weeks now and apart from an initial allergic reaction, which has worn off, it's working fine. I spoke to my doctor about my 'progress' yesterday and she said it is a very gentle drug that didn't make you feel spaced out and hyper-real like some SSRs. I must admit, after three years of hell on Seroxat, it's nice to feel like me again. Emotions aren't blocked out on it - just evened out. It's giving me chance to address issues whereas on Seroxat I just thought 'Sod it'. One thing I would advise though, combine taking it with exercise, meditation or 'time out', healthy living and diet and good old fashioned talking it through. Good luck and take care.
Exercise helps release endorphines which might help you feel better. I get 'down' sometimes, I was on prozac which just made me really sleepy. I personally don't like taking pills but I do find that when I exercise I feel better.
i've been taking it three months now after having been on quite a wide range of antidepressants that havent helped and altho i felt a bit peculiar for the first couple of days i feel fantastic now i think it took about a week before it actually helped.
i took cipalex for 8 weeks and it made me worse sortof. what i am saying is that i was in a very depressive state of mind and i was feeling like this for three yrs but being me i thought i could handle it till it started to affect my family i was getting paranoid very angry and my baines would not talk to me. so that was it i went to doctors and he gave me cipralex which i had to take 10mg once a day for 14 days then 20mg till i finished. the depression was going but my anger was getting real bad. but when i did get this medication the doctor said it would lift me up from this depresion and lower my anxiety which my motto is dont knock it till u tried it, but it did not work for me.
I'v suffered with depression for over 10 years, I tried seroxat 7 years ago, it made me very ill, don't know how survived. I started taking cipralex in june this year (2004) for the 1st 10 days or so, I was numb, I seemed to have no feelings at all. For the next 8 weeks My sypmtoms became far worse, depression, anxiety etc. but at the insistance of my doc I persevered. I had to take 10 weeks off work (couldn't even leave the house most of the time) but I don't regret it. I now feel better than I have for at least 20 years. the only remaining side effects are - odd sleeping habits, strange and vivid dreams and lots of bruising (I look like I've been beaten up all the time)but for me it's worth it, I've suffered such a lot with depression, I would reccommend this for anyone who finds depression is preventing them from leading a normal life. good luck. xxx
I take Cipramil which is very similar to cipralex. I have taken it for several years and it does balance me out. It doesn't have many side affects, except for weird dreams and dodgy sleeping habits. I take it for anxiety and although I am still an anxious person and worry, I do not get the awful panic attacks that I used to and I can cope far better with life.
