How much are you allowed to buy in duty free?

Any quantity! The problem arises at your destination, since different countries have different amounts of duty free allowance. (The Maldives don't allow you to bring in any alcohol into their country!).

Note that there is no duty free allowance when travelling between one EU country and another.
