Thank you for your best wishes, kettledrum. I am not a physician but a retired dentist. Having whooping cough is one of the worst things that I have ever experienced. I am now into day 12 of bouts of paroxysmal coughing which are worst at night, but last night was the first in a fortnight that I managed to get some sleep. Yesterday I was at such a low ebb that on receiving some flowers from a friend I promptly burst into tears. You feel shattered, depressed, frightful and scared....and hope that this doesn't progress into pneumonia (hence a chest Xray yesterday). However my neighbours say this morning that I look a lot better than of late, so I hope that things are progressing. This phase can last for 2 or 3 weeks, and then you are left with a residual cough that can take months to disappear. What is so frustrating is that there is no treatment ...you just have to ride it out. But I'm getting there..........
