I dont really understand computers although i pick info up from what goes on at work.i installed it fine by following the instructions. You will find that being wireless does slow things down a bit. At that time i didnt understand the security side of it. About a month ago a young family friend was round and from his phone(?) he could see my wireless connection was unsecure but all others also detected were secure. So i tried to sort this out myself, i changed somethings and set some passwords and thought it was done-but apparently not.Hence i asked the question on here. I phoned a helpline number last night and now i know why i didnt get an answer on here!i was on phone for 47 minutes and being totally guided by a very helpful guy i am now secure but i couldnt tell you what i done neither could do it again without their help! If i was you id pay someone to do it for you if you not sure. The dongle can be used on another computer to become wireless using the same connection. Good luck!

Who is your ISP? They may provide you with a free modem/router.
If not, the sort you buy will depend on whether your ISP connection is DSL (Virgin Media) or ADSL - any other provider.
You do not need to pay anyone to make the wireless connection secure. By being patient and following the instructions you should be able to do it. When the time comes and you are ready to give it a go, there are many people here who will give you a hand.
A dongle is a USB wireless adapter. If your laptop or pc is not already wifi enabled, you plug the dongle in and it receives the wireless signal.

I pay an insurance which apparently covers software support too - this i didnt realise until reading small print this week.
And sorry i didnt make my dongle answer very clear - our other computer is not wireless so it made it able to be so.
