make my fire place look nice!

What can i use to make my fireplace look abit more attractive, the surround is fine but the middle is white wood with a garcsley vent in the middle, i was thinking maybe part of a raidator covering for the middle but i would have to join it in the middle this would look abit odd?!

you can buy the middle piece quite cheaply at B&Q just stick it to it if you cant take wood out or put a plant in the hearth and fairy lights or large candles which look great when main light are off I had same problem in old flat but not a vent in it but I painted it black and put things in front to detract from it - you could also buy a fire screen which would cover it - i think radiator cover would look odd
