Make a paste of any of the oxygenating cleaners and follow the instructions with the product. It really works. Also, if it's a fresh spill, don't blot or try and wipe it up, just pour table salt on it until the entire spill is well covered. Let it dry without touching it. When it dries out in a day or so, you can just pick up the dried 'blob' and vacuum. It really works! Newt

Oops, I wrote to vacuum and I was thinking of wine on carpet. You can use the same method of making a paste of the oxygenating cleaner, leave on for an hour or so and then wash as usual for clothes. Newt

if still wet you can counteract red wine with white wine (honestly!) if it has dried, follow the previous answer

Try baking soda in some cold water.

There's a product called 'Wine Away' that removes all red wine stains from clothes, carpets, tablecloths etc. There are no chemicals involved just fruit and vegetable extracts, so this should be very safe. A 360ml bottle costs �8.95 and can be bought through Lakeland.
