Thanks Dave but unfortunately it hasnt worked....the screensaver i have been using has been on here a year and the icons were fine up until a few days ago. However, i have changed the screensaver now and no change?
I imagine that you have just changed the colour of them, by accident maybe, I doubt if they are highlighted, have you been playing about with themes or the display appearances?

not that i am aware of...its been the same screen saver for a long time now and the icons were fine for ages...think u must have altered something by accident although not sure what!
1. What operating system are you using? (version of MAC OS, or Windows, or flavour of linux and kernal)

2. Are the icon pictures highlighted as well, or just the name of the icon?

If it's just the name, and you are on XP, try this:

[Start] right click "My Computer" choose [Properties]. On the "Advanced" tab Choose [Settings] under the preformance heading. Scroll down the list and ensure that "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" is checked.

If this does not work, or does not apply to your situation, then I'll wait for you to answer the questions that I've asked.
Sam100,

I had to search far and wide for the answer to this because the same thing happened to me! Three ANNOYING days of all my icons permanently HIGHLIGHTED!!!

Here is the solution if you use Windows XP:

1. right click on desktop itself (not a file)
2. properties
3. desktop tab
4. customize desktop
5. web tab
6. check the box NOT called "My Current Home Page" and delete it! It may already be checked delete that SOB!

Make sure to click apply and OK in the boxes before closing them out. It should work.
