i used to be one of those dorks running red lights, but after a few tickets and my insurance going up through the roof i learned a lesson. why i did it, mostly i had to get three kids to school on time to three different schools several miles apart; i did not want my kids standing waiting by the street at 6 in the morning, then riding the bus for more than an hour only for class to begin at 8. it's two dangerous, too many kids get abducted and killed here in the states. and then, when i picked them up, it was piano, ballet lessons, dentists appointments, in addition to working in my own business; it was madness sometimes, and unluckily, that's how i drove. plus the fact that i was younger and definitely brainless to speed down the road and then being stopped by a cop, being given a ticket, and then late for my appointment. one time i was going 70 on 55 mile highway, i know it is not the highest speed, but here in the US cops are ready to write you a ticket pretty quick, so this trooper handcuffs me, and takes to the station, takes my license, and i had to get a ride home, which was 25 miles away. needless to say i was late picking up my kids. but i never block intersections, so i'm not all bad, thank god. and the cell phone, i got rid of it altogether. i do agree that phone users at the wheel are a definite hazard. we just had a really bad wreck nearby because the driver was on the phone. in some parts of the country you have to have hands free phones, it's the law in New York, believe.
I agree 100% with you. I also hate those morons who insist on speeding and then moan about speed cameras catching them. As if the speed cameras are in the wrong and they aren't. I honestly think that reapeat offenders of any of the points mentioned should be banned for life.
My pet hate is people who only use the outside lane at roundabouts regardless of what exit they are taking.Really infuriating!
I myself hate people who drive too close behind you and then hoot at you at look at you daggers if you slow down; this morning I was driving along a road where I have never been before, looking for house no. 25, I saw it suddenly, I was not going too fast although probably not slow enough, I signalled right and I was about to turn into the drive (this is in the UK so I would have to drive across the opposite late); the driver behind me hooted his horn at me quite aggressively and made me panic so I changed the signal to left and drove a bit further and then stopped on the left. As he drove past me he had his body twisted to look at me and was giving me ferocious looks. But, first, it is his duty to keep the safety distance, second, the highway code says you have to be aware that the driver in front of you may be unfamiliar with the road and be looking for something - just like this morning. This is the kind of driver that infuriates me. I then drove on to a roundabout, turned round, so this time I had the drive on my left, but again I saw it too late to drive straight in so I stopped on the left and, when it was clear, reversed into this drive. Again, several drivers behind me were annoyed, though less aggressively behaved. I'd like to know, is there a better way to handle these situations? I told the man I was going to see that I shall be in no hurry to go back!
Driving is one of the few activities with such lethal complications which allow you to pass a test, and then carry on for the rest of your life with no assessment or re-training at all. ******** in their own little world, people slowly but surely become oblivious to the rules they had to learn to pass their Driving Test, and develop a system that suits themselves alone - including all the bad behaviour listed. Compulsory re-tests every couple of years may well weed out the morons - at least it would sharpen up people's attitudes to other road users.
Thw word I used was c*c**n*d - as in 'insulated' - I think the automatic editing facililty is getting a little over-zealous!
To answer the question you asked, it's because dorks drive.
Yeah, I'm in America and people are such imbeciles in their cars. I hate it when they throw a temper tantrum (tail-gating and putting on their high beams)at me for going the speed limit. I always have to resist slamming on my breaks. I just keep the attitude that if they're in such a hurry then maybe they should have left a little earlier. Then there are those who pull out of driveways and parking spots without looking to see if anybody is coming, as well as those who cut halfway into the opposite lane when rounding a corner. I agree that they should have yearly driving exams and anyone who has multiple accidents or tickets should have their car keys taken away and replaced with a packet of bus tickets.
