If Hilary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination, and if she wins the next US Presidential elections...what will Bill Clinton's title be?

Actually, let me clarify, ex-Presidents are always called 'Mr President', even after they leave office (after watching two series of The West Wing back to back, I'm pretty sure on this..)

But what if Bill had never been President? Would he be The First Husband, or what???

jno, I'm not entirely sure I agree with you about Bush being elected partly because he's got some sort of lovable characteristic/some sort of charisma. (Especially not the first time he was 'elected'). I think Bush was elected for much the same reason Major was made leader of the tory party. He's easy to manipulate. And he's out to copy impress daddy. (Ok, the latter might be a bit harsh).

sorry CD, didn't mean Bush has charisma; as far as I know he hasn't. He's got a basic likeability, as has Clinton. Clinton's charisma is something extra, which is why women like him. I don't think women like Bush much - his own mother doesn't, I am assured by Washingtonians; she used to introduce him as 'My son the cowboy'.

I really wish she'd had a headache the night Bush junior ws concieved. Or a condom. That's possibly the nastiest thing I've ever said on here. But it's true.

I see what you mean about Bush tbeing likeable too. I just think he's depriving a village idiot of oxygen. But I also know that my dislike of Bush is verging on extremist...

I am no a great Bush fan myself - but you can see how he looks like a regular guy when compared with Gore and Kerry, his two presidential opponents, both of whom come across as rather stiff policy wonks. Even in An Inconvenient Truth Gore can't quite loosen up. But apparently Bush snr (also rather stiff but an honourable man who'd seen the world beyond Texas) and his wife really reposed their hopes in Jeb, the son who was governor of Florida; George W wasn't expected to do well. I suspect a lot of the latter's work is aimed at proving himself to his father in some Freudian way - 'Hey Dad, wanna see how war on Iraq should really work?....oops'

I agree rather a lot with your Fraudien analysis of Bush junior. Although I would also say that as with anything in a republican american goverment, it always seems to be oil related. And of course war makes money too. But perhaps I just have Monday morning grumps.

And yes, I will concede that compared with Gore and Kerry, Bush would have looked more like a regular guy. (And quite a lot like a monkey too).

Was just thinking about what you said last night about electing an amiable doofus though... What about Borris Johnson for mayor? Is that still going ahead? See, I'm not convinced he'd win but I think he'd have a following. (Mind you, I'm also not that convinced he's a complete doofus either but that's another story).

Thinking about it... I quite fancied Borris after he hoasted that Have I got News for You.... But the pills kicked in fairly soon and I was back to my normal self!

Boris Johnson, yes, that is a fair point. I do not think I could personally vote for anyone who calls black people picaninnies, but then I am grumpy 24/7. I don't think he is exactly multicultural enough for a place like London but would be a good mayor of Tunbridge Wells.

It's nothing personal, Ruby, I think T Wells is rather pretty... it's just that there seem to be fewer piccaninnies there than in Brixton, say, so he'd have more core Tory voters to vote him in.

I've just checked the spelling of piccaninnies and there are two Cs... that's the trouble with using words that aren't part of my daily vocabulary, I'm not at ease with them. I'm sure Boris would have spelt it right every time.

jno - I do agree with you about Borris. Certainly wouldn't want him as my MP although I toyed with finding the idea of him as London Mayor quite amusing. On the whole though it's not a good idea. Just that as loveable doofus's go, he does seem to get a fair bit of support.

ruby - I think that despising someone and s3x in general can go hand in hand and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with politics but more a heightend state of emotions. And yes, it is objectifying men. Which I don't think is ever a bad thing ;0)
