The original was by the Paragons and was recorded in about 1966 or 67, so AK's version is a cover of a cover. I doubt whether any soundtrack used the Paragons' version.

I get the feeling I've heard the tune (or just a part of the tune) in one of the songs in 'Grease'. Maybe thats what you're thinking of.
