What plasma??

Looking to buy a 37 inch plasma tv. Which is the best one to get - was considering the panasonic or sony. If you've got either or have roadtested either please let me know.

A good source tells me the reason for the price drop in plasma t.v.'s is that apparently they lose quite at a lot of gas, and it is quite noticable that the colour fades after only a couple of years use, Which is why lcd's are becoming more popular.

I have a Philips plasma (Christmas pressie from Mrs Rekstout) and have been chuffed to bits with it. Only moan is that when I switch it on it automatically jumps to AV1 channel instead of TV because my DVD player is plugged into AV1 and is also my Amp/Surround Sound system so is always on. I spoke to Panasonic about it and they said it was because I have a Sony DVD player (sounds like a cop out to me). Other tha that no complaints thus far. My Paents have the 42" sony (18 months old or so now and no problems thus far - their had to have an additional "black box" which was seperate from the plasma unit - not sure if that is a Sony thing or not.

re johntheplamf's post - utter rubbish about plasmas losing gas. I have also been considering a plasma and this is one of the biggest myths. Essentially LCDs can only go up to around 37" - anything bigger and it has to be plasma. Incidentally, a plasma / lcd screen is not actually of a better quality than a tube screen. If you want the best possible picture buy a tube screen. The real advantage of plasma is their thinness and ability to be wall mounted.
