What do you do with a 14yo who has just murdered ?
Just shot another human being. Never mind the parents and the sociological aspects, what do we do with that 14yo ?
The only answer I have is to lock them up, but that in the long term is only going to give us an ever-increasing prison population because this problem is not only not going away, it is going to increase remorselessly.
Any solutions or shall we just throw the towel in and emigrate, give up, let them have it their way.
A 14yo KNOWS that shooting someone is WRONG. We need to stop pussyfooting around and start punishing these animals savagely.

I am actually beginning to wonder how society has ever worked at all if children can rule the roost with knives and guns and Human Rights.
So in a police cell somewhere there is banged up a yoof who has just killed an 11yo boy who was playing football. Lose him out in the back yard. No I didn't really mean that.

I think we actually have to accept that amongst sections of our 'community' there is an incidence of murder and violence that we have to plain get used to.
The kid in the police cell ? He'll get 20 years, serve 10, then out again, in the meantime there will have been hundreds and hundreds more killed. An unstoppable cycle, because we are seeing people who have a culture we can never understand, let alone control or placate.

Zero tolerance on this gang culture that is creeping around the country. If you get caught with a gun or a knife or another offensive weapon, you need to be treated like you intend to use it.
What to do with the 14 yr old though. No idea! Hopefully there is some chance of reform. There was that gang leader in America, who had shot and killed a number of people when he was a teen. He spent 27 years on death row, he had become a figure head in the anti gang culture movement and if anyone seemed to repent it was him. They still executed him even though people including the family of at least one of his victims didnt want it. So, errr.... yeah life I suppose. 25 years.... I find it hard to think a 14 year old who has commited this crime should be put away forever.

I would firstly agree with CD's post that states that we need to get to the root of the problem so that this kind of thing does not happen.
That said Whiffey is asking for what happens when it does in a case where a 14 year old has committed murder.
I don't think that we should use capital punishment for many of the reasons stated previously.
I also think that a life sentence (life meaning life which we don't currently have in this country) is also too long. People will respond far better if they have hope.
I would look at education, education, education in prison.
Kids (and adults) would go to prison and if they are spending say 10 years inside they would received an education that brought them up to degree level (or equivalent) as well as training in life skills such as anger management, team work etc etc.
For people who are not education based, there would be other skills such as bricklaying, plastering, gardening etc.
At the end of their prison sentence (and you would not be able to leave without certain passes in subjects as well as psychological profiling) they would have to apply for a job and would not be released until they were in full time employment. For the next two years, if they were to leave that job for whatever reason then they would go back to prison and have to reapply for jobs.
I would also give them a prison 'bonus' of a certain amount of money on leaving so that they can integrate easily back into society.
If someone did not want to learn and was disruptive then they would be put into solitary confinement until they did want to participate.

Having no idea where to buy crack I dont know.
Yes, you are right to buy cannabis I have to find the dodgiest gang in "TAunton". Look for the scariest hooded 15 year old and fear for my life as I ask to buy an eighth.
No, I dont think gangs are all about drugs. I think if you took the drugs away these little oiks thrive on violence and fear.

National service for 18 year olds and if they leave school at 16 make them do it then!
I learned discipline and respect in the BB's. These little turds get no discipline cos this country is so politically correct we can't say Boo to them!
P.s. I'm 34 so I never did it!

There was a guy on news this morning saying it could be the computer games influence, apparently theres a game called Grand Theft auto and its full of violence for which I presume you score 'points' to young minds this might become a reality on the street. Is violent gaming a possible cause??? At least that can be fixed by wiping them off the shelves.
