Was Live Earth a success?
TV ratings for Live Earth were apparently very disappointing, considerably lower than those for the Princess Diana concert. Do you think that Live Earth was a success? Was it a cynical ploy or a genuine effort to change the way people think? Was the Diana concert better?

It's all very well having your carbon footprint rammed down your throat but in reality the G8 nations couldn't give a toss. Hasn't the US increased it's fuel consumption since signing the Kioto (spelling) agreement?
The only people I can see benefitting from Saturday was the artists.
What about all those who flew in on private jets, how much electricity was used to put the event on, I won't go on yawn...

I totally agree. There was no point to that concert! All the way through I thought people were probably stuck in traffic jams in their thousands to see all of the bands go out there and use yet more energy. Quite what metallica have to do with climate change I will never know.
Live Earth was just a publicity stunt to make people think that the world leaders care. If they did care then instead of spending millions on huge concerts around the world, maybe they should put the money towards something more useful.

You could predict how dodgy the idea for this event was going to be if even rent a saints Bono and Geldof were nowhere to be seen.
Whatever your viewpoint on climate change is everybody seems to have one and therefore we do not need to be made anymore aware. The only awareness raised was for the younger generation of music fans who may be still naive to the hypocritical and contradicting actions of the majority of "pop stars".
I did my bit to reduce my carbon footprint and turned my tv off and walked to the pub!

what a load of dross...except for metallica and foo fighters, the rest were mediocre to say the least. Anyone who took spinal tap seriously (and I know a few did!), needs medication.
As far as success is concerned, what were they hoping to achieve?, awareness of global warming is rammed down our throats daily...and I won't go down the route of saying what the cause is, as it is discussed elsewhere on this site.
ps., I hoovered my living room today, now my carbon footprints are in the dyson!

God you lot are cynical. Bono was nowhere to be seen because hes busy writing spiderman the musical *chuckle*. I would have been less inclined to watch it had bono been involved. His name is on enough causes.
Of course it was a publicity stunt but it makes a change for an American to be highlighting these points.
I cant believe more people tuned into watch that utter sh1te Diana memorial gig. Freaking terrible acts.
