Cam Belt on a Fiat Ulysses

Last night i had to be towed home by the AA as my car had totally shut down. The AA man said the cam belt had gone. Does anyone know approximately how much it is going to cost me to get it fixed. Its just so that i have an approx idea when i go to a garage as as a woman they try and take the mick and charge me the earth. Thanx

I had a new cambelt installed on my Astra in March 2004 and it cost �123 (greater London). I don't know if it makes a difference but mine had not actually gone. I had it done because it was due.

Depends on if the engine is what is called 'fail safe' (sorry don't know with this model) if it is �80-120 should cover it but if it's not I'm affraid it could be very expensive as the valves hit the pistons and bend. Which means removing the cylinder head and replacing how many valves have been damaged, wild guess �250-350, sorry.

Varies. Definitely not less than �100 and could be up to �500. I know it sounds ridiculous for a belt but they have to take the engine out. Parts cost is about �15!!!
