Sorry, this clue has been sent to me from a friend visiting France. Nothing else to help me or you I'm afraid.

Is there anything else your friend can tell us about this clue? Is the answer going to be in english or a mixture of French & English like the clue? Does he have any other clues (pref with answers) from the same crossword / quiz. Does it have a title? Just a little SOMETHING to steer us in the right direction !!

No inconvenience - I rather regarded it as a challenge! But if your friend is unable to give us any other questions (or even a title) so that we can get a feel for it, I can't think of anything constructive to suggest.
I thought it might have been something to do with Le Moulin Rouge / Windmill / 'we never closed' but the length of the words is all wrong for any phrases / words that come mind.
Music Hall / painter / Paris / opera bars / Capital of France/

ddon - I'd thought of that too but it's travaillent {(they) work / are working} not travaillant(working). I presumed there was some relevance in the verb form used.
