In the AB Editor's Blog dated 23rd January it says, "Apologies in advance to all the AB users who do not abuse the AnswerBank or its members and take the time to abide by the site rules
However it has come to my attention that a small number of AnswerBank members are not respecting the rules and even though previous Editors have made similar posts regarding the rules of the site they would appear to have gone unnoticed. I would appreciate it if every AB user would take to time to read the following so that we are all clear on what will and will not be tolerated on the AnswerBank.
Firstly and most importantly every member should treat others as they would like to be treated and respect other user's opinions. Any AB user who results to personal attacks, name calling, harassment or abuse, take note this will not be tolerated and your AnswerBank account will be terminated.
It is expected that discussions will get passionate from time to time butusers should moderate their language and most certainly refrain from swearing. This includes replacing letters in a swear word with any symbols to imitate the letters. Any post found to include this will be banned regardless of the remaining content of the question or answer; if you want your post to stay on the site please abide by this rule. Posts that are sexually explicit or lead to sexually explicit content will also be removed. "
(The words in bold are as they appear in the original posting.)
With all that in mind why is Chattabonk's post still allowed in the thread here http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/AB-Suggestions/ Question448548.html ?

Unless I'm mistaken, that post contains four obscenities, three of which could get me arrested if utterred in public.

It is a personal attack on a named Member, it is abusive, it uses spelling to get round the autocensor.

There is no report option so what is the explanation?

Yes TCL that is precisely why I don't wander around here much these days - particularly after dark and at weekends. Yobs control the streets and now their equivalent the cyber world as well. We ask for more police presence on our streets and these webpages should be policed much more frequently as well.
It is most frustrating when we are told (in the AB Blogs) to use the report function but what use is that when these threads seem to have bought immunity (or at least found a way to hide the report button. Is someone being bribed to turn it off?

I quite agree with you on the it being unpleasant and that the pixels involved are cowardly. They should take it up with you privately if they have an issue. That would be the grown up way.
But I maintain I do not agree with getting involved with their silliness. (I don't actually think you did on that thread, it's just my viewpoint).

CD, this comes from the Site Rules:
Take care when discussing mature topics. Keep in mind that under 18s view and contribute to the website.
The idea used to be that AB was intended as a family site. Personally I try to give outline answers even to kids who just post their homework questions. But I'd be wary of letting my young children (not that I now have any) onto the site while this sort of abuse is on show. If that's how the Editor wants it, ok, it's her privilege. But it's very much at odds with the principles she laid claim to the last time she spelt them out, as TCL has pasted them over. This seems a shame as there are plenty of chatrooms where people can throw cow dung at each other until the cows, um, come home. But this site is largely user-moderated, as the Ed doesn't work the night shift; and it's frustrating when she is apparently prepared to wave this sort of stuff through when at least a few users are strongly offended by it and seem to have the house rules on their side.

Again... I whole heartedy agree <b<jno, I even think that with the heated debates in News it rarely gets as bad there as it does in B&S sometimes.
Ed should stand by said rules and this thread should have been removed.
I just think that getting in to a discussion with nasty pixels like that just perpetuates the whole thing.
Also, that russian saga... if that is a kid just trying to get a rise out of people, how disturbing is it that a bunch of apparently sensible adults jump on her as quickly as they do. Again, another nasty pixel possibly but some of the replies are just as bad.
Sometimes it appears to me there is a double standard on here. You wouldn't talk to the people you meet in everyday life the way some do on here so why do it in cyberspace? It's just mean.

I think it is the freedom of late night misuse in that the AB Editor is probably at home watching Eastenders with a glass of wine and a box of chocolates after a hard days AB Blogging, and not moderating the site.
Nonetheless, whilst the thread may be subjected to the 3 rs (reported, reviewed, reinstated) I cannot understand why the offensive posts were included within the reinstatement. In fact, given the nature of the thread itself (not strictly a question) I have to agree why was it reinstated at all?

that happens an awful lot actually and it took at least 3 emails to the ed with an attached link to get a particular offensive posr removed!!! It weas in fact a posting of my complete home address!!!! it had been reported and removed and then reinstated!!! I know there are people on here who have the abilkity to use government software to look up peoples address my faulkt for being stupid and using my name) but the site should take head of peoples concerns and emails.!!

just spent a few hours browsing your answerbank
why not go into a few other topics and look at the language they use
yes i agree mine was nasty
but go and look at the rest of your answerbank
you will find the same language used
I will not bother to post links as that just highlights subjects
I will remember in future that is is a "family site"
