I own a Renault Megane. Theres a red light showing on the dashboard. Ive looked at the manual and it says its the coolant temperature warning light. How do I fix it without taking it to a garage and getting conned?

hiya AniaSm - first thing to do is the obvious, which you may have done is check the coolant level in the 'rad' or the expansion bottle, if this is ok then check all electrical connections, if ok could be you need a new thermostat or sender unit which you may be able to fit yourself. gudluk.
or you engine is overheating which may be the head gasket and if this is the case you will have no choice but to take it too a garage asap or you may end up with a very big bill. one way i noticed how to check if the coolant temp in renaults is too low is that the heating inside the car will not work.
Get a Haynes manual from ebay or something & there should be some suggestions in there. Check how much anti-freeze/water mixture you have in your coolant bottle.
Is your engine actually over heating?
