My deposit was submitted before April 07. Am i still protected by the new law?

The key date is the date of your contract. The new law came in 1st April. Check that, not the date when you paid the deposit.

As buildersmate said. I f your agreement was signed prior to the the date of the new law then I am pretty sure that you aren't.
