CD Drive

My CD drive has suddenly disappeared from my computer.
All help appreciated.

First, try running System Restore, to take your PC back to a date before the CD drive icon disappeared.

The restore idea works fine and another solution is to reinstall the CD driver, if you have the disc or go to the manufacture's site and download the latest version.

It's also a good idea to remove and reference on your PC BEFORE you do this as well as making sure your anti virus program is DISABLED!

Did you try Chris's link for a solution and did it work?

I've got the same problem as you and until I read about your problem I had put mine on the back burner.

So I tried Chris's idea of tweaking the Registry with no success so I wondered if you tried and succeeded!

Many thanks for the advice, I have now got my cd icon back using the link.
The only problem is that I cannot use the drive as it does not have any free space on the cd even though the disc is empty.
Any further help would be appreciated

Just to expand my thanks to all who assisted me in solving this problem, everything is all up and running now.
