I've been given a Sony TV with an inbuilt digi box. Is it possible to connect this with my dvd recorder so that I can record off either terrestial or digital whilst watching something else? The way I've managed to get it working so far is that I can only record what I'm watching (!) and if I turn the TV off it stops recording! What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong

the watch one ... record another setups work because the kit has two tuners

to watch digi and record anothe digi - you need a second digi source.

Is the DVD recorder analog only?
if so you can record terrestrial while watching dig on the tv ... but because you only have 1 digi source ......

Thanks AC. I can understand not being able to record one digi and watch another but I should be able to record digi and watch terrestrial, and vice versa, shouldn't I? Can't get it to 'see' the terrestrial at all, only the digi.

I don't think the recorder is analog only as it was previously hooked up to an NTL box and could record off that without any probs.
depends if it uses a hybrid (all-in-one fig & Analog) tuner ... the better ones do
