I absolutely loved that car the handling is superb as is the road grip, petrol consumption wasnt that bad either and its lovely on long journeys.
The only bad points I can think of is the price of parts/servicing etc, mind you this was 10 years ago so you might be able to replace things with non-toyota parts now, also the back end kicks out a bit if the road is wet and you over do corners! Plus obvious comment on tiny boot space !

I have had 2 girlfriends with MR2's. One had the old style and the other has a 55 plate (convertible).
The main problem we found is that neither have large boot space, the interior is cramped (even though we are not overly tall), and the seats are too low.
Both cars are very feminine and I suppse the word is "cute" but generally impratical.
Sure they are cheap to buy and run but don't handle that great.
I suggest if you are wanting to buy a small 2 door sports car then go for a Lotus Elise or Exige. They handle far better, can be picked up for a reasonable price, are far more pretty and guys won't be embarrassed being a passanger in them lol

I've had my mr2 mk3 just month and i love it.
Good performance and petrol consumption is better than expected.
Handling is excellent, just watch it round bends in the wet,
Very little space, small area under bonnet where spare wheel is kept but dont put anything too heavy in here as affects weight distribution. Also lockers behind seat can carry a bit. then theres the little compartment on dashboard too.
Only thing is, partner has just bought honda s2000, and now wish i'd got one of them instead, although much more expensive!
Hood on mr2 is easy to get up and down, although not electric which is a shame. You wont be disappointed if you buy this car!
