The Verve ......bland! i made the sort of sound you make when you stub your toe. Horrified! Couldnt believe what I was reading so I read it again and consoled myself with this whickerman thinks Keane are alright .

The Verve were and still are amazing. Richard Ashcrofts voice is just plain beautiful. How could you think this?

Goodsoulette - I felt much the same when he said the same about Pulp, who in my humble opinion wee-weed all over Oasis. Each to their own, I know, but I'd rather listen to the majestic Common People than the vastly overrated tuneless bilge of Wonderwall (second only to Free's All Right Now in my list of all-time most overrated pop/rock songs). I'm being a little unfair as Oasis have done some stuff I like, but Wonderwall...yawn.

Still, he likes The Fratellis, so like you I calmed down again. :-)

And I can understand people labelling Oasis songs as tuneless bilge but Wonderwall is one of their classics.

Played to death, yes. Too many cover versions of it, sure. But it's one of the best songs they've ever done.

The verve are kind of bland but they're last album was pretty good. Don't think much of their earlier stuff though.

when I say I consoled myself over him liking Keane ( sorry to talk about you WM) but I was chuckling rather than thinking this made up for it.

Oasis Pulp and the Verve are all brilliant bands and as a big Oasis fan I agree Wonderwall although brilliant is not their best Live Forever is better.

Richard Ashcroft is genius I have been seeing him since my first Verve gig in 1992 and he is always great

Cripes - i actually missed this thread!!!! I'm really sorry - I actually got it by Googling Whickerman out of curiosity (there are a few others that use that name on other sites btw!)

I suppose it's each to their own. I do however admit that although i'm not a fan of the Verve I can see why others do, and I love mentioning them in the same sentence as 'bland' or 'overrated' because I'm a mischevious soul and it winds people up...!!!! (Sorry :))
