There were a number of them made-"Early Victorians", "Late Victorians" and the one you remember-the ww2 one was "1936-1953". There may have been others aswell. They are still used in school today but I don't know if they've been updated.
I remember the WW2 'How We Used To Live'... actually I've just started humming the theme to it! :) The Dad was played by Leslie Schofield whose been in Star Wars, Eastenders, Dr.Who, Blakes 7, Johnny Briggs and many more TV programmes.
After the WW2 'How We Used To Live', I think it moved into the 50s... I'm unsure, I can remember the 'rising sun' stained glass window on the front door being replaced by something more 'modern'. Most of the cast members changed and so I lost interest!
I found this quote on the web - "are a few notably long-running programmes however: Yorkshire Television's historical drama-documentary series How We Used To Live began on Tuesday September 24th, 1968 and is still going on Channel 4 in 2003."
I found the intro to the series here on Real Player - http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/schools/itvschoolsprogrammes2.html
