Pee Wee Stevenson bit for horses
7 Answers
I know this question is extremely specialised, but I also know that there are extremely knowledgeable ABers who may be able to help. I have today ordered a Pee Wee bit for my 17.1hh TB. I wondered if anyone has tried this bit or knows anyone who has. If so, what was the results if any? And do you think the standard size would fit a 17.1hh TB (with a slender muzzle)?
Thanks in advance.

I saw the bit on ebay of all places but after a bit of digging and reading up, saw that it looks like the answer to my prayers. My gelding has a very sensitive mouth and panics when he has anything other than a very still stable mouthpiece in his mouth. I need a little extra control when doing XC but he needs to flex when we showjump. And the copper mouthpiece looks excellent too.
Thanks for answering so far!!

Hi Cheries, this is an American bit, used for educating young or r-educating older horses. It's a loose ring mullen.
Are you having problems with your horse? Have you had his teeth done recently (I have mine done every year)?
If the answer to the above questions is no, then I would'nt get this bit. Stick to a nice snaffle, and as he's a big lad give him a bit of time.
Remember if you ever need to sell him snaffle mouthed will always help to sell him to a good home.
good luck

Hi 'Tache. Yeah I get his teeth done every 6 months because they grow like grass!! Although recently he has taken to chewing on his leadrope when i go to bring him in from his field. I can't help wondering if this is related somehow.
He panics when he has a standard nutcracker action bit in, and he's presently in a racing Nathe which is fine for flatwork (he accepts contact and is happy to flex) but I thought it might be useful to have a stronger bit for XC (I really need it!! He gets so excited!)
Oh, I don't know, there's so much stuff out there claiming to be the next big thing isn't there? I've ordered this Peewee thingy from a bit bank loan service, so if it truly is pants then it will only have cost me 10 i suppose!!!

Sorry could'nt get back earlier. If I were you and given your circumstances, I'd give it a go, at least it will only cost you 10. I just get so sick of trying new things at great expense only to find its just a variation on an old theme. This bit bank sounds like a good idea, can you let me know where you found out about it.
All four of mine are a bit mad over XC, they just get so excited, Non of them are 17hh though!!!! I don't know what else to suggest, apart from keep doing loads an loads of flat work, but I'm sure you know this.
Good Luck

Hi Horsestache, the bit bank is
http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/index.php?cPa th=153
They charge you the full amount for the bit initially (in case you just never return it) but then after 2 weeks you can either return it and receive your money back , less 10 + p+p, or agree to buy the type of bit you loaned, in which case you still return the loan bit and they send you a brand spankers one by return of post.
