Downloading printers

I've recently obtained a printer but without the CD software stuff that comes with it when it's new. Can I use the internet to get my computer to recognise it, and if so, how? It won't do it automatically when I plug it in. (It's a Lexmark X2310 if that helps?!)

Hi again. Thank you for replying. I tried downloading from the website, driver and software, and it seems to go OK, but I ended up getting a Lexmark fax machine loaded instead of my printer, and I'm sure I asked for the correct one. Not sure if it's my mistake or the website's. Any ideas?

DONE IT! Took me best part of 2 hours, and not sure what I did differently the third time to the first two, but I got there eventually! The wonders of Technology! : )
