Ketosis Breath
5 Answers
I happily criticise both the Aitkens and the Cambridge diet, so I require no details on them please. However, I have a friend that needs to loose 3 stone in two months as he is having an operation. He can not exercise so needs a crash diet.
He is going on the Cambridge diet but works very close with the public and is concerned about Ketosis breath. Due to the strictness of the Cambridge, he can not chew gum.
Just how bad is Cambridge breath??
Thank you.

..........the water answer is perhaps the most useful because it gets at the root of the problem.
When you decrease the amount of carbohydrates for the body to use as fuel, your system turns to the ketone bodies, which are produced by burning fat. The ketone bodies are sloughed off a number of ways, including through the urine and through the breath. Drinking more water encourages more urination, and when more of the ketones are sloughed through the unrine fewer are released through the breath........

A good balanced diet with plenty of exercise is indeed the right move, with say 2 to 3 lbs a week maximum. It has been cleared by his GP. He has no plans to stay on the horrific diet after the op, although he will follow a healthy eating regime as any form of exercise will be out of the question for at least a year.
I shall inform him of the water, thank you.

Try getting the diet for the British Heart Foundation. I did hae a copy but can't find it. It runs for 3 days at a time and you can lose up to 8lbs. If i find a copy i'll post it. It's normal food but eaten well..... one nights dinner is 3 slices of cold meat, 3 oz of green beans and 3oz of beetroot and pudding is half a melon and ice cream. It's not to bad but it does work and no smells.
I had this from a diet and it smells a bit like pear drops, or nail varnish. It's not like it's halitosis or anything eye watering, just a little unusual to anyone who gets close enough to smell it. They'll just think he's been eating pear drops if he tells them no different. Chewing parsley might help, though sugar free gum really won't interfere with either diet, they just go a bit OTT with the rules, that's all. I hope his op goes well.
