Update on Shadow the feral cat
19 Answers
Hi Everyone,
Just to let you all know that we managed to get Shadow into the cage this morning. Took a little while but she was so hungry. First, she managed to get the food from the cage out with her paw, so I pushed the food further into the cage where she could not access it. After about ten minutes, she went in, no bother.
She never kicked up a fuss and was so calm all the way down to the Vet.
They operated on a growth on her head and it was fluid based. She has a UTI so has been given an injection for that.
The Vet treated her for fleas and she was wormed and dematted. She is a long haired tortoiseshell cat.
They said she had no teeth but I was aware of that a while ago. She always had to have soft food.
She is a bit groggy still, so is spending the night at the Vet's.
We will go pick her up tomorrow morning and take her back to the place she has known and lived for 18 years.
Thank you all so much for the support and advice you all gave me this week.
I really appreciate it. One happy person and I hope one happy cat.
Hope she forgives me for putting her through all this trauma today.
Once again, thank you all so much. xx

My two were born feral kittens and rescued, it horrifies to think how rough their life might have been.
I am sure that Shadow appreciates all that you have done for her. She will feel so much better with the matts and fleas gone.
She sounds like a lovely cat - she has had a rough life but still trusts you. Well done!

Thats brilliant news Cruella!! What a relief eh? She might be a bit wary of you for a short time, but,I'm sure that won't last. Our other cat,is half feral, and he tends to run and hide if you accidently fall over him etc ,but,he soon appears again. The main thing,is that Shadow has built up a great trust with you,and she will always know, you are there for her. She's a great wee survivor and I hope she has a few more happy years ahead of her.Well done you for all your love and care of her xx
Thats wonderful news, she has made it to this time in life so I am sure she will pull through this bless her and you for taking the trouble to see to the little mite, we can only try our best to help these poor neglected animals, like its been said before she will be a little on the shy side for a while but Im sure she will soon be back to her normal self thanks for this update and please keep us informed.Bless g
Good on you, lass! I'm so glad Shadow has been checked over by a vet now. She obviously trusts you a lot and knows that you're there to help her. I hope she makes it - she sounds like a little fighter, so has probably got a few more years in her yet! Animals have a way of giving us strength in all sorts of ways and I think Shadow is telling you something...
I've posted you a message in Body & Soul. K xx

Just let you all know that we collected Shadow from the Vet this morning and took her back to where she has lived for her entire life.
She was a bit reluctant to come out of the cage at first, I had a bowl of food and water waiting for her. She eventually came out, ate her food and had a drink. Never took off, just sat where she normally sits and cleaned herself.
I had to leave her in the capable hands of a colleague as I have to take a few days annual leave but everyone loves her and know they will good care of her until I get back to work.
Once again, big thanks to everyone who helped over the past week. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
