Hi all :o)

Feeling quite pleased with myself as just finished making my Xmas cake and got it in the oven baking away nicely.
It will be soaked in sherry once it has cooled down and packed away under the stairs, where it is quite cool, until December when I will ice it.

Has anyone else made their Xmas cakes yet? Or are the best ones started earlier than Sept? Does anyone have a secret ingredient or a recipe they swear by?

Be interesting to hear from other ABer's who make their own :o)

I can't believe this question is even here. It is over THREE WHOLE MONTHS before the dreaded "c" comes round yet again. But seeing as you ask, my favourite recipe is Delia Smith and it gets made a week befor C if I'm really organised or 2 days before if I'm not. ACtually last year it didn't get made at all and nobody missed it.

Ummm ok Figi, thanx for your reply.
I have made my christmas cakes this early as they then have longer to mature and will taste much nicer come christmas morning. I was just asking if others had made theirs early too, if so how early or if they had any secret ingredients.

This question is here as it is the Christmas section. I thought about putting it in the Food & Drink section but didn't want to get shouted at that christmas is 3 whole months away. I assumed (obviously wrongly) that if people didn't want to read questions about christmas then they would avoid this section until nearer the time.
i am very impressed that you have made your cakes already! And horray for the christmas spirit! I dont like fruit cake myself, strickly chocolate cakes and anything with lots of cream and bad stuff!! im the one who monitors the family sized tin of Quality street and the tv guide!
I usually make my xmas cakes now and they have plenty of time to mature .But you have beat me to it this year , i am going to do mine this weekend .
