Spiders
7 Answers
My girlfriend is absolutely petrified of spiders, & we have been getting them quite regularly in our home recently (big spiders aswell).
Does anybody have a way to keep them from your home that doesn't cost too much (without killing them)?

I was living on my own for a while and i was also terrified of spiders. As my boy got older he too was becoming scared of them, i really didnt want this. It was onyl because of me! As i I had no-one to get rid of them for me i had no choice but to try and overcome this fear myself. It has taken a long time and i'm not completely cured, but before i couldnt even go in the same room as one. The other day there was a huge one on my bed and i was able to get near enough to put it in a box and put it outside.
All i have been doing is when there is one, telling myself to calm down, to relax my body and breathe deeply. Keep telling yourself theres nothing to fear. If you start by getting close to really small ones and really look at them and then when you can let it touch your hand just do it. I'm now not worried about small spiders or even big ones if they have very thin legs and tiny bodies. Its only the big thick ones i still cant touch. It feels good to have done this and i reckon anyone can do it! My little boy is not convinced yet though and still screams!

If you cant afford Deet or its not suitable for other reasons. Get some citronella oil add it to a bucket of water and wash down all your skirting boards and window frames etc. I have never done this but am considering it now asx I have had soo many big spiders this month. They really make me freak even my 2 year old recognises my spider scream from another room, he quickly enters shouting "spider, spider".
I am absolutely terrified of spiders, especially the huge ones that I have encountered in our home this year. Biggest I have ever seen.
I got that sonic plug in thing but it did not work.
Spoke to a colleague who is an Environmental Health Officer. His advice was to brush down all the windows inside and out with a hard wired brush, then spray with an insect repellent. Seems that is where they lay their eggs.
Never seen a spider since doing that and I was having a visit from at least one per day until then.
