killing/controlling ivy coming down a rock face 40 foot high and unable to access top. stones dislodged if lower bits of ivy pulled out. Can only just reach lower bits of ivy on a ladder.

You don't have to kill ivy by pulling it out. Just cut across the lowest bits fully. The top bits will eventually die. This method is used on trees that are being choked by ivy.
