Employees at our local council's major concert venue have just been informed that:
a) they are not to play CDs or music of any kind in the offices, because this means that staff can't hear the phones ringing. That would be the skeleton staff, one person per three or four person office because the council refuse to recruit more staff.
b) they are not allowed to put posters on office walls or anything other than basic name signs on the doors - doodled-on pictures of the occupants are not allowed. This may give the wrong impression to visitors (who never visit the offices because meetings are held elsewhere in the venue). This now means they can't listen to demo CDs of any acts they may consider booking.
c) they may not have a broadcast-receiving televisions on the premises. This includes the TV in the staff restroom. It conveniently overlooks the numerous CCTV monitors around the building that are perfectly capable of receiving broadcasts.
And, like many council bigwigs, someone is being paid 30k or so a year to make these decisions - and they don't even work in the building!
